MLB.com, the official website of the Major League Baseball (MLB), currently classifies Parada as one of the “big three” minor league catcher prospects along with Francisco Alvarez (New York Mets) and Diego Cartaya (LA Dodgers). Parada’s last year’s Minor League Rookie League and Single A records were 13 appearances, a batting average of 0.275 (11 hits in 40 at-bats), 1 home run and 8 RBIs. He didn’t play many games, but his skills were tested in big-league camp as the team’s expectations were high.
Meanwhile, the Mets invited outfielder Alex Ramirez (20) to the camp in addition to Parada. Ramirez played 121 games in minor league single A and upper single A last year, batting average of 0.281 (140 hits in 498 at-bats) with 11 homers and 71 RBIs. The Mets also included New York Yankees outfielder Tim Locastro and Puerto Rican catcher Michael Perez on their camp roster.
