Called up to Gwangju last season from Dankook University after coming up through the Gwangju youth ranks, Chung has been a mainstay in the team since his first year as a professional, scoring one goal and two assists in 36 games with a high work rate, aggressive defense, and stable game coordination.

This season, he has continued to play a key role in the team’s offense, recording two assists in 16 games and earning the K League’s Young Player of the Month award for February and March, making him a promising midfielder in the league.

Based on his performance in the league, he has been consistently called upon by coach Hwang Sun-hong, who is leading the national team to the Hangzhou Asian Games this year.

“It’s an indescribable honor to be able to play for my club and for my country. I feel like I need to do better,” he said, adding, “I will repay the honor with a good performance with great confidence.”

Meanwhile, the Hangzhou Asian Games team will play two exhibition matches against the Chinese Asian Games team on June 15 and 19.
