Suwon FC’s Lee Seung-woo has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 25th round of professional soccer’s K League 1.
The Korea Professional Football Association announced on Monday that Lee Seung-woo, who scored the game-winning goal in the Suwon FC-Suwon Samsung Electronics 2-0 win at Suwon World Cup Stadium on May 5, was named the MVP of the 25th round.
Although his main position is a flanker, Lee was deployed as a central midfielder according to Suwon FC’s player resources and tactical situation. He played a good role in both the offense and defense with his passing and active pressure.
In first-half stoppage time, he didn’t miss a pass from Jung Dong-ho and scored with a right-footed shot. The timing of his shot was quick before the Suwon defense pressured him.
Suwon FC is still reeling from the drunk driving scandal involving foreign player Ras. However, Lee Seung-woo proved to be the best player in the country, at least for Round 25, as he scored the goal that ended an eight-match winless streak (2 W, 6 D). Suwon FC was also named to the Best Team of Round 25. 꽁머니지급
He was also named to the ‘Best 11 Midfielders’ alongside Yoon Beom-garam and Jeong Ho-yeon (Gwangju FC), who were deployed ahead of him. Uhm Ji Sung (Gwangju FC), Park Jae Yong, and Han Kyowon (Jeonbuk Hyundai) were selected as forwards, while Lee Min Ki (Gwangju FC), Ha Chang Rae (Pohang Steelers), Petrasek (Jeonbuk Hyundai), and Jung Dong Ho (Suwon FC) were selected as defenders. The goalkeeper was Oh Seung-hoon (Daegu FC).
Even though the K League transfer market is closed, Lee is still attracting interest from Europe. The transfer window for major European leagues is open until September 2 (KST). Italian Serie A promotion teams Genoa and Frosinone are reportedly interested, while the Major League Soccer (MLS), Danish league, and Middle Eastern leagues are also watching.
However, Lee emphasized that he is only committed to Suwon FC for now, saying, “A transfer is only possible if everything fits together.” With Suwon FC in 10th place, a playoff spot for promotion, every game counts.
Meanwhile, the best game was the FC Seoul-Pohang Steelers match. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw. Pohang’s Ha Chang-rae saved the day with a dramatic goal just before the end.
