Major League Baseball (MLB) Cincinnati Reds released Mike Moustakas on the 6th (Korean time) with one year left on his contract. Cincinnati tried to trade Moustakas against other clubs, but failed and threw a large amount into the air.

Moustakas, who signed a four-year, $64 million (approximately 81.3 billion won) contract with Cincinnati after the 2019 season, was the last season of the contract, and the club decided to end his company. Accordingly, Cincinnati paid Moustakas $22 million (approximately 27.9 billion won), including a contract termination penalty. 메이저놀이터

Moustakas, who made his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals in 2011, helped win the 2015 World Series. He also had a star character to the extent that he was selected as an All-Star three times, and his slugging power was excellent, recording more than 20 home runs on five occasions.

Cincinnati expressed expectations by giving Mustakas a huge amount, but the result that came back was ‘the worst contract ever’. Moustakas was on the disabled list seven times in three seasons with Cincinnati, making 184 appearances. His performance was also disappointing, with a batting average of 0.216, 21 homers, 74 RBIs, 64 runs scored, and an OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 0.683.

Cincinnati, which suffered 100 losses (62 wins) last year and recorded the lowest win rate in the major leagues, began to improve its constitution and classified Mustakas as out of play. In December of last year, with the acquisition of catcher Kurt Cassali, Moustakas was excluded from the 40-man roster.

The Cincinnati Inquirer, a local newspaper, said, “Mustakas’ salary was so high that he couldn’t even find a club to negotiate a trade with.”
